About Us

Kinfolk Candles is a family owned and operated business located in historic town of Canal Fulton, Ohio on the Erie Canal.

Over time, and with plenty of testing, we have created a candle formula that is clean burning, highly fragrant and superior compared to most of the candles in today's marketplace. Our incredibly rich fragrances are carefully selected to provide the strongest scent throw possible.
We are proud to put our name on each and every hand poured candle!

We know that you will enjoy burning Kinfolk Candles as much as we do making them!

So what does it take to make a high quality candle? Kim Galley of Kinfolk Candles says that it isn’t as easy as it may seem. Candle making is an art. It is a combination of mathematics, science and art. Through trail and error over the years, Kim has perfected her candle formula. Kinfolk Candles uses a very specific blend of a natural soy vegetable wax formulated just for container candles.

The scent selection process is of up most importance, being the primary reason her customers love her candles. Kim has created a “good throwing” candle. The throw is the term used for the scent that the candle gives off both hot (while burning) and cold (not burning). We’ve committed many hours, and spare no expense to create the best quality candle, with the best scent “throw” possible.”

After all, the candles are what made Kinfolk Candles, and what candles they are! With scents exclusive to Kinfolk Candles such as Bed & Breakfast or the infamous Tea Cakes, these candles smell as good as the sound. Scent however is only part of making a great candle.

Kim Galley began making candles in her basement in 1998 in order to stay at home and earn an income while caring for her school age children. That same year, she established The Kinfolk Candle Company. The name kinfolk was chosen, which is Synonymous with family.

Candle making is an art. A combination of science and mathematics are used in measuring, testing and blending fragrance and wax. We use a Natural Soy Vegetable Wax formulated specifically for container candles. It can be difficult to produce a “good throwing” candle. The throw is the term used for the scent that the candle gives off both hot (while burning) and cold (not burning).

In the winter of 2006, in an effort to outsource some of the assembly portion of our candle making process, we went to the community of Canal Fulton looking for help. We were very excited to meet with Rick White from Community Connections and join forces with the Echoing Ridge Day-Hab program. This program provides training and employment to physically and mentally handicapped individuals. Soon after working with the residents of Echoing Ridge, who by the way, provide excellent and professional service to our company, I had expressed a need for more space for manufacturing, a week or so later we were approached by Rick White with an incredible opportunity to sub-lease a 1500 square foot facility that would better accommodate our candle making business. It couldn’t have come at a better time, and we feel so very blessed.

“We’ve grown leaps and bounds since then and now my husband, and much of our families, as well as a few friends are involved in candle making.
The process of creating each hand-blended and hand-poured candle begins early each morning and involves careful monitoring, then each candle goes through a “quality control” check before being packed for shipping.”

"Our scent selection process is a group effort, and I must say that adding new fragrances to our line is my favorite part! We strive for the attention to detail that many larger candle companies can’t. Our ingredients come from many sources and are all chosen for superior quality. We believe that cutting our cost may also sacrifice the quality that our customer have come to know and trust.”

HERE'S WHAT SOME OF OUR CUSTOMERS HAVE TO SAY:

Went to get some supplies last night at Flower Factory, and found a huge huge huge shelf full of these 8 oz jelly jar Soy candles, made by Kinfolk Candles, in Canal Fulton, OH. I bought a Pink Sugar and a Vanilla Buttercrunch, and took 'em home to burn, they are wonderful! Does anyone know if the owner is on the Dish? They are very good-melting candles. My entire upstairs smelled like Pink Sugar, from one little 8 oz candle. Awesome scent throw!

“I love your candles! I used to buy them locally when I lived in Doylestown, Ohio. I now live in Houston, TX and, of course, I can’t find any candles that compare to yours. Would you be interested in selling your candles in this neck of the woods? Please contact me because I would love to help you in locating a shop nearby that may stock your candles! God Bless!”
Janice Herren – Houston, TX 10/18/2004

“I am interested in purchasing your candles. My Husband picked up one of your candles just outside of London in early May. I would enjoy having several more to give as gifts and for personal use. Please tell me how to do this.
Kind Regards, Susie.” Susie Ingram – Scotland 11/18/2004

“The candles are great! You don’t even have to light them for them to smell!”
Sandy Stottlemire - Ohio March 25, 2004

"I received my candles a while back and have loved them. I am very picky and am always in search of a top-notch cinnamon candle---which I think makes my home a heavenly place. Yours fit the bill and are only one of 2 that I've ever considered acceptable. Your Cinnamon Snap beat all other name-brands I've tried."
